On to Philadelphia
So, I went on yet another road trip this weekend. Our trip to Philadelphia and New York was so action filled that I didn’t get a chance to make any posts while I was away…but I did take pictures! The visit was intended for both work (another grad school open-house) and pleasure, while it primarily felt like the latter. I had never been to Philadelphia before and the biggest associations I made with the city lingered somewhere in the realm of Philly cheesesteak and ”The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
After this weekend, admitting this has become a little embarrassing because Philly is actually a pretty amazing, beautiful, fun city. Everyone at the school was recommending restaurants in the Rittenhouse Square area so that’s where we spent most of our time after the open-house events. I loved the vibe of its nightlife and the food was fantastic. From an aesthetic perspective, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how well the patrons (especially the girls) of the restaurants were dressed. It was such a treat!
A Journey Home
Today’s look-of-the-day is of the outfit I wore on the way back to Toronto. As fun as our trip had been I was ready to come home because, quite honestly, it was also pretty tiring. It was my first time wearing the LnA zipper leggings when traveling and they were unsurprisingly perfect for the occasion. I felt very comfortable lounging in them in the back seat, even more so then in the Lida Baday pants I wore on the way to Cleveland. I paired the leggings with a hoodie and simple ballet flats. The whole combo inspired in me a feeling of lightness and even a bit of an inclination towards movement and dance. It’s amazing how much wearing certain garments can affect your mood and in this case it had an almost energizing effect.
They Call me Mellow Yellow
When everything gets blah and mundane often the only way to get yourself out of the rut is by taking measures into your own hands. According to studies on psychological effects of colour, yellow stimulates the brain to be more alert, decisive, and even energetic. It is thought to be a happy and uplifting colour that “builds self-confidence and encourages optimism.” Those who consider fashion to be a superficial pursuit fail to remember a simple fact. Internal and external beauty are interdependent and this example of colour illustrates this on the most basic level. If a yellow dress can make you more confident how can aesthetics be irrelevant to how you feel. The saying that “looks aren’t important, it’s what’s on the inside that counts” is not just a cliche but a dangerous fallacy because it perpetuates the same belief that the external and the internal and somehow separate and even conflicting. When you don’t look healthy and taken care of it’s pretty difficult to feel any different than that. If colour can be uplifting than incorporate it into your looks when you need that lift; take it upon yourself to brighten the world around you.
Bright Leggings
I’m posting this look-of-the-day later than usual because I’ve been so busy writing the article for the last video-post on rain clothes (I really hope someone is reading them; it would be worth your while). Anyways, today’s look-of-the-day includes fabulous, bright, zipper, LNA leggings. I hope you like how I wore them because this approach is quite untraditional. Instinctively, and without much consideration, I would wear these leggings with a v-neck boyfriend t-shirt, a man’s watch, an over-sized loose sweater, and maybe a long necklace with a simple pendant. Here I tried to find an alternative. I challenged myself to wear them in a more feminine way. I am not a huge fan of wearing such leggings under a knee-length dress because I think it looks sloppy and a bit too layered for my liking, but a long top or blouse is a different matter. I have these leggings in teal, flamingo pink, and marigold yellow, so stay tuned for my takes on those variations.
