I was actually planning a Tibi look today, which would have been in line with the recent pattern of putting the featured designers into action. But unfortunately, there will have to be a temporary break with tradition because the weather is really noncompliant today. The Tibi dress I was originally planning to wear is from their Jungle Collection and unless I was going with a tropical-hurricane-season theme, right now these is absolutely no correlation between the tropics and the Torontonian vibe. So I’m making this ‘chocolate mousse’ post pretty much by default. It’s like Homer Simpson said, “The best two words in the English language – DE FAULT!!!”

flowers for the starving artist
We checked out a new cafe for brunch called “Starving Artist” on Bloor and Lansdowne in Toronto, and it is now one of my favorite spots. The food was delicious and its vibe sort of artsy-casual. I layered my loose Amo & Bretty top over a light vintage dress and finished off the look with my beloved Clara Kasavina beaded purse. The sunshine outside is distracting me so I’ll leave it at that. Have an amazing Saturday everyone.

I was really in the mood for silks and satins today even though the weather refuses to comply. I bought this skirt over a year ago and it just hung in my closet until today. The main reason for this uselessness was that I had little desire to wear it in its original state. It used to be knee-length actually (here is a picture of a skirt just like it in a different colour). My mom likes to busy herself with sewing or knitting when we watch movies at home together, so a few days ago I gave her another project to work on
. I had the idea of folding the bottom of the skirt inward and sewing it onto the horizontal middle seam and the skirt was turned into a mini in the course of one movie. The entire skirt was double layered to begin with so after the adjustment the bottom part became quadruple-layered, giving it something of a tutu-style silhouette. The final result was a little different than I had imagined – more coquettish and girly – but at least I’ll get some use out of it now.
Hush
I checked out a new play at the Tarragon Theatre on friday night called Hush. It seemed to possess a bit of surrealist and even Freudian thematic undercurrents as it explored the threshold between dreams and reality. This play was the first Tarragon show for my mom and I really wanted her to like it. Ironically enough, at the end of the play, she was the only one fully satisfied with the experience – go figure (nothing can ever bore this woman). Well…overall the play really was good – the cast was strong and the plot kept you wondering the entire time; trying to decipher the possible meaning of the dreams in the context of the characters’ lives. If psychological enigmas are your ‘cup of tea’ you will love Hush, but if not there is always Communion (which I’m planning on checking out next Friday).
Brooch Tuxedo
I just came back from a run and it was…invigorating. Ever since my skiing knee-injury last winter I had to be careful not to strain or aggravate the knee so I was limited to yoga, yogalates, dance, or cycling. Running has always been such a huge part of my life that it felt unnatural to have to deprive myself of it. Today I put on two layers of track clothes and ran in the rain, through the slush (LOL, it’s so like me to choose such extreme conditions for my ‘first run’ of this year. My mom and I have this inside joke about how we always have to “overdo it”). But as strange as it may sound, the unfavourable weather only intensified the experience of feeling like “I got my mojo back.” There was hardly any discomfort in my knee at all and I immediately felt stronger. I think I finally gave my body what it was craving
. This quote about running says it best: “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or gazelle – when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”
