Today’s look-of-the-day is of a silk YA-YA Aflalo dress that is lingerie-inspired. Its slip-like silhouette and lace trimming add a feminine and sensual touch. I wear this dress on tropical vacations with a decolletage-accentuating necklace and simple back heels. However, in an urban environments of Toronto (for instance) I would be sure to pair this dress with a shawl or a light cardigan. Making such setting-conscious adjustments ensures you’re feeling comfortable and appropriate.

Reception
Yesterday I went to my first graduate school reception and I wore my new Nina Ricci dress for the occasion. My mom came along to show her support and keep me company, which obviously made the experience a lot more enjoyable for me. What I found to be quite impressive about the experience was how attentive all of the school representatives were to their guests. Of course, the reception was intended to convince the potential students to accept the school’s offers so this attention had a definite motive, but the Dean himself didn’t have to go out of his way and spend 20 minutes talking to my mom and I about why the school would be a great choice for me.
With Love
To me, March 6th is a special day for a number of reasons. On March 6th (1853) Giuseppe Verdi’s opera, La Traviata, received its premiere performance in Venice. La Traviata is my favorite opera of all time, and after its premier on March 6th the world became just a little more beautiful and brilliant. On March 6th (1869) Dmitri Mendeleev presented the first periodic table to the Russian Chemical Society – bringing us one step closer to the understanding of chemical behavior. March 6th, Larisa Vasilievna Gribanos (now known as Laura Foote) was born. She is a strong, talented, beautiful woman who I have the immense pleasure of calling my aunt. Laura’s limitless capacity for caring, attentiveness, and compassion makes her precious to me.
Open-back Maxi
I adore Maxi dresses and today’s look-of-the-day reflects a little of that adoration. I especially love silk maxi dresses that YA-YA makes because they are always so silk generous and gorgeous. This particular dress is unique in that it’s completely open in the back and has a rope belt that ties and holds the two fold of silk overtop the black layer underneath. I last wore this dress on my trip to Jamaica and its rich layers of silk made me feel graceful and scrumptious
; adding to the pleasure and fun of a night underneath those Caribbean skies.
Back to the City
I’m back in Toronto now, if only for a few days. I didn’t have a look-of-the-day entry yesterday because I was busy shooting the episode on Vacation clothes. I will publish it as soon as I’m done editing. I hope you’ve all regained your energy and are ready for the New Year celebration, regardless of how spectacular or quiet you plan it to be.
