After doing the Junya Watanabe inspiration post yesterday I felt ready to take on that gingham checks jacket I talked about. This morning I took on the challenge of making Watanabe’s design “everyday appropriate.” I believe that no matter how unusual or eccentric a piece might appear on the runway, it always has the potential to be a lot more wearable depending on how it’s styled. For example, the jacket that I’m wearing here looked like this on the runway (only in blue). It’s not as ‘Ready-to-Wear’ as the name might imply, so it’s up to us, ‘the wearers,’ to make the pieces work.

Happy Valley
As part of this road-trip, the second school to visit on our agenda was located in State College, Pennsylvania. The town is economically and demographically dominated by the presence of the main campus of the Penn State University. The disproportionate presence of young people manifestly dictates its general atmosphere in every regard. As I was looking out the window on our drive through the town it felt almost surreal. It’s like I was in some twilight zone run by jocks and girls in booty shorts (the weather was beautiful). While I’m sure the experience of living there is enjoyable in its own way, I personally couldn’t imagine it for myself. The more exposed I am to the lifestyles of different people the more convinced I become of my inherently metropolitan nature…at least for now.
A Lovely Weekend
I just came back from having a day of fabric searching on Queen Street. A friend of mine, Liliana, had this interesting idea of us designing and making dresses together as a hobby – sort of an extension of my already existing fashion obsession. I think it’s beginning to consume my life
…what do you guys think? What started as an appreciation for beautiful things has metamorphosed into the hobby of (a) collecting them, (b) blogging about them, (c) and now making them. It’s exiting though because we’re full of design ideas and this creative process is adding a new dimension to my appreciation for “the art of it all.”
Bright Fuchsia
Today’s look-of-the-day is of a fuchsia silk top and white shorts. It’s a vacation look that I put together on one of my trips to Santa Clara, Cuba. I love the combination of long tops and shorts in warm climates; it’s comfortable and leg-flattering. The double-layered silk chiffon creates a feeling of lightness, the fuchsia colour (through its brightness) intensifies the glow and radiance of the skin, and the shorts keep you comfortable and ready to dance. I added the pearl necklace to the look for additional sass and to further unify and relate the fuchsia to the white.
Country Charm
Today I am helping my mom with house renovations and finishing off some minor things with my applications. I quickly put this look together for the day. Well I’m obviously not going to renovate in it, but I needed to wear something to get from my condo to my parent’s place. I called it “Country Charm,” mostly because of the riding-boots. But when I look at the outfit as a whole, I think it slightly carries the country theme throughout, and it reflects the mood I’m in today – playful…
