I submitted this picture for the Moxsie Sweet Summer Style contest on chictopia. The whole premise behind the contest was to show what your favourite Summer stapes are and how you keep cool in the heat. When I first read what was required I immediately knew that I could contribute because I’m something of a “heat junkie.” The temperature outside can rarely be too high for me and I crave the hottest of the summer days. I’m not sure if this has anything to do with the matter, but part of the explanation could be the fact that I’m a fire sign (Leo). But zodiac aside, when I was asked to describe how I stay stylish through the summer this is what I wrote:

Bounce
I bought this large beach hat at Century 21 on my last trip to New York. I like to read at the beach and I’ve always wanted an enormous beach hat for sun protection and shade. When packing for California, this hat was neatly folded at the bottom of the suitcase even though the weather forecast didn’t seem too promising. I’m glad I packed it because (as is often the case) the forecast was overly pessimistic. On my second last day in California, a ‘beach’ opportunity presented itself and my new hat and I got a chance to get better acquainted

Muted Neutrality
It’s damp and grey in Toronto today and I felt like being equally as muted. The Alberta Ferretti top I’m wearing in today’s pictures is actually from my mom’s closet. I ‘borrowed’ it, sort of speak, without her knowing…you think she’ll notice? Considering that she is on the site five times a day and is probably my ‘biggest fan’ I doubt it will get by her
. The top has stunning brooch design in the front and is made of the softest cashmere ever – I couldn’t resist.
So Far So Good! :)
Today’s look-of-the-day is of what I wore last night to a show at the Factory Theatre. I loved the silhouette produced by the crinoline Zac Posen blouse when paired with a form-fitting tank. It highlights the outlines of the figure in a subtle, understated way. To finish the look, I threw the Proenza Schouler jacket on top of the blouse and mini – in keeping with the blue/white colour pallet and the vertical checks. The Cole Haan flap clutch picks up the colour of the mini while (in texture) conforming to the cubic tenor in the main garments.
A Bohemian Touch
Today’s look-of-the-day is my take on Boho. The aesthetic synthesis we now recognize as the ‘Bohemian style’ has gypsy roots and is often associated with unconventional, artistic lifestyles. Keeping these two facts in mind is particularly helpful when constructing a boho look because they trigger a multitude of mental images and direct associations. Ask yourself the question of ‘what would a gypsy girl wear?’ and you’ll know immediately weather a certain garment qualifies. Their usual characteristics are: (a) loose fit, (b) natural materials, (c) muted tones, (d) flowy silhouettes, and (e) an abundance of accessories.
