Now that summer is officially over its time to step into fall. What better way to do that than in something inspired and daring. This post is meant to provide some material for you ladies to work with. It comprises my favourite looks from the Fall 2011 Collections of some of my favourite designers. It also lists prominent trends for the season below the images. Enjoy my lovelies.
Marni
heart locket
I had too much coffee this morning and it’s beginning to manifest itself in restlessness and over productivity. Hence this little unplanned post. I wore this a-line Laundry dress, plastic Marni aviators, and rose sandals to a farewell party in Japan. Farewell Tokyo!
a birthday in paradise
About four years ago I made up a new tradition for myself. I decided that I would make it a goal to spend every one of my birthdays in a new, preferably exotic place. This is one of my more…”extravagant” traditions – a little ambitious for a student’s budget but somehow I’ve been lucky so far. I figure I’ll just plant the seed and life will figure itself out. Anyway, I spent this year’s b-day on an island in Thailand called Samui and it was incredible. Not only was the island gorgeous, but on the 4th of August I got to ride an elephant, feed a baby tiger, ride on top of a truck (which proved to be more fun than I could have imagined) and eat spicy Top Yum Goong all day. In the spirit of quality tropical vacations, I kept my looks in Thailand casual and light.
vintage shopping in Harajuku
I think the weather gods might be reading my blog because it hasn’t rained in Seoul since my last post – solid logic right
. This linen look is from a day of shopping in the famous Harajuku area of Tokyo where I discovered some cool vintage shops. Tokyo is definitely an expensive city but vintage pieces tend to cost about the same as they do in the US. That day I ended up leaving Harajuku three vintage dresses richer and about $100 poorer. I loved shopping in the vintage stores because there was hardly a need to even look at the sizes. About 95% of all the pieces ranged from size 0-4. I’ll also never forget my experience of trying the clothes on. Before going into the change-room, you neatly leave your shoes on a little rug outside and put on a special round tissue over your head so as not to get makeup on the dresses. Tokyo is definitely one of the cleanest places in the world with arguably the most well-mannered and friendly inhabitants.
Hooked on my Mon Mode
A few days before leaving for Japan, my friend Ksusha and I spent a day in downtown Toronto – perfume shopping in Yorkville, dim summing on Bay Street, and later taking a walk through my old University of Toronto campus. The sweet people of Mon Mode were kind enough to send me this snakeskin purse hook and I have to say, while I never had used one before, it’s been in my bag ever since. I love that it has has a mirror. Functional and stylish…gotta love that!
