I’m out in New York right now and will post the pictures of today’s look tomorrow. This silk Marc Jacobs dress is what I wore to the last opera of the season, Maria Stuarda. I didn’t want to bother with the parking downtown, so my mom and I decided to take a subway for a change; hence the title.

Sheer Dot
We celebrated a friend’s birthday last night so, as you can imagine, I’m a little low on energy today. I felt like wearing something light and delicate so I layered my sheer Etro blouse over a sheer polka-dot dress. The belt softens the transition from the one garment to another while visually separating them at the same time. The top part of the dress conveniently assumes the role of a camisole that a sheer blouse often requires and the bottom is turned into a skit. I’ve never layered sheer on sheer before but I think it works.
Lets Sail Away
I hope you guys all had an amazing weekend. You want to know what I did? I spent the entire time watching Dexter and got through over two seasons. The show is so addictive that it turns you into a degenerate in no time
. Considering that I don’t even have cable, it feels strange for me to commit so much time to a tv series. I’ve always been more of a film buff (I even minored in cinema studies in university) but my mama got me hooked on this bloody show. Anyway, for those of you who are familiar with it; is it just me or is the character of Rita (Dexter’s girlfriend) incredibly annoying? What’s up with the constant huffing and puffing? She reacts to the most unpleasant news in the same way as if she just chipped a nail – she literally just inhales or exhales loudly and calls it an emotion or thought. Oops, I’m sorry, I think I’m venting a little. Too much Dexter see…he gets under your skin
(get it, because he cuts people).
Rolls Royce and Derercuny
Today’s look-of-the-day was one of my favourite to put together. The vintage inspired Gil Carvalho boots are incredibly soft and comfortable, despite the high-heels. Interestingly enough, I bought the Derercuny blouse and jacket separately and without having seen the runway pictures I’ve included in this post. Thus far they are the only Derercuny items that I own, so when I finally looked thorough their collection online I was pleasantly surprised that the two garments were paired on the runway. I love the look of the detailed jacket over the simple blouse, which has these unusually long pieces extended from the collar. I suspect that this was the exact feature that worried and confused most of the potential buyers of the blouse, which is also probably the reason I was able to get it on such an amazing sale. What most would view as a scary inconvenience (I’m still talking about the long pieces on the blouse) I see as an opportunity to play – to reshape the garment with every wear. For example, they can be tied in a bow (as was done on the runway) or wrapped around the neck (as I had done here). What do you like more?
