I’m in Korea and I’ve started my law firm clerkship in central Seoul! Our law school arranged for their students to live in a dormitory of a university, which was fine except for an unexpected twist – the dorm has a curfew. Doors automatically lock at 12 a.m. at which point there is absolutely no way of getting in or out. Naturally, all of the American students are appalled by the idea and can’t wait to find a less “unreasonable” arrangement. So after work, our time is consumed by the task of apartment searching. In terms of my fashion related observations, there seems to be a general inclination amongst Korean girls towards light blouses, and loose, linen, naturally-died, layered tops with simple hemming and boho-esque silluettes. Their looks tend to be very feminine and soft.

The weather was so beautiful while we were preparing for exams that I remember picturing myself by the pool as soon as exams were over. I pictured a bright bikini, a large hat, mohitos, and something festive playing in the background. Well I tried that today, with my Michael Kors straw tote in hand and everything else I described. Only as soon as I just about finished with my set up it started raining. Um, so now I’m inside…still hoping that my dream could materialize today.
a touch of sequin
One of my new evening favourites is the combination of sequin and silk. The matte top balances out the sparkly skirt with a few long necklaces for that extra touch of accessory goodness. The slight sheerness in the silk adds the feeling of lightness without being overly revealing. It’s all about balance.

My “newly acquired independence” (that’s code for becoming single) is giving me more time to reflect and just be on my own than I’ve had in a long time. Naturally, my days have their ups and downs and I find myself doubting and questioning notions that I previously accepted as truths. To dispel some of the vagueness, I’ll just tell you that I’m referring to tedious relationship stuff. Anyway, I’m going to call this part of my life the “Inquisition Period” and never speak of it again. I hope. Today’s post encompasses some of what I refuse to question however. The power of vitamin D and the love of family and friends.
what happens in Vegas…
I hope everyone had an amazing New Years and that 2011 proves to be exceptionally fabulous for all of you. I celebrated this special event in Vegas this year and I loved it! The nine-hour road trip there was definitely worth it (but I think I’ll be flying next time). Is it just me or does Vegas feel like a giant movie set or a stage. It’s a bizarre place – a true mirage of sorts.
