Here I mixed electric fuchsia with royal blue, and balanced this combination by adding polar white. I kept my look within this trio-colour-scheme and let the city fill in the rest.

If I had to rate what my favorite finds are the list would go something like this: (1) jewelery, (2) dresses, (3) other type of clothing pieces, (4) shoes, (5) clutches and purses, (6) other miscellaneous accessories. Yes, jewelery is at the top of my list because it often sets the mood for an entire look without the necessity to dominate. A simple pendant can unify and contextualize seemingly unrelated pieces, a bright bracelet can induce a splash of colour into a monotone ensemble in effect freshening the look, and an elegant vintage-inspired necklace easily adds a degree of elegance and chic to a relatively mundane group of garments. I especially like crazy, unique jewelery pieces that others would likely shy away from – these little monstrosities are the most fun to play with. My Pellini fish necklace qualifies within this category for its seeming impracticality and unconventionality. It looks like something fishermen use as bate to attract larger fish – not a typical choice for a fashionista. What I love about this necklace is that it serves the role of a statement piece while being completely casual about it – an understated statement – an aesthetic paradox.

Listen to this…I really waned to see this show at the Tarragon Theatre (in Toronto) called East of Berlin. The problem is that it is completely sold out for the next few weeks so the only way to see it is by purchasing “rush tickets.” The benefit of rush tickets, aside from the fact that they are still available, is that they are much cheaper than the regular ones (only $10); however, there is a catch. There is only a limited number of rush tickets available and you need to line up over two hours before the play begins in order to have a chance at purchasing them. So guess what I did? I waited in line…only to have the last ticket sold to the girl right in front of me. I was next!!! But I choose not to be bitter about the experience because “now it’s on.” It has become a matter of principle and now I’m really determined to see this show , so I’m planning to line-up even earlier next week. I’ll just bring a book.

But the story is not over yet. After walking out of the theatre empty handed I stepped into the biggest mud puddle. The velvet Sergio Rossi boots you see in the pictures were covered in a thick layer of dirt. As I looked down at them in this sorry state I thought, “kick a girl while she’s down, why don’t you.”

What I’m wearing:

4 Onyx bangle bracelets

Boots by “Sergio Rossi” (alternating diamond-shaped pieces in suede, velvet, and fur, which are outlined in breads) (as seen in Dec. 12’09)

Today’s look-of-the-day was one of my favourite to put together. The vintage inspired Gil Carvalho boots are incredibly soft and comfortable, despite the high-heels. Interestingly enough, I bought the Derercuny blouse and jacket separately and without having seen the runway pictures I’ve included in this post. Thus far they are the only Derercuny items that I own, so when I finally looked thorough their collection online I was pleasantly surprised that the two garments were paired on the runway. I love the look of the detailed jacket over the simple blouse, which has these unusually long pieces extended from the collar. I suspect that this was the exact feature that worried and confused most of the potential buyers of the blouse, which is also probably the reason I was able to get it on such an amazing sale. What most would view as a scary inconvenience (I’m still talking about the long pieces on the blouse) I see as an opportunity to play – to reshape the garment with every wear. For example, they can be tied in a bow (as was done on the runway) or wrapped around the neck (as I had done here). What do you like more?

BTW, the last picture is of Becki Newton with the Rolls Royce clutch.

What I’m wearing:

Jacket by “Derercuny”

Rolls Royce Fold-Over clutch by “Marc Jacobs”

Cuban bean necklace/bracelet (bought for 1 convertible peso in the market of Trinidad, Cuba) (as seen in Jan. 7’10)

Black leggings

I’m posting this look-of-the-day later than usual because I’ve been so busy writing the article for the last video-post on rain clothes (I really hope someone is reading them; it would be worth your while). Anyways, today’s look-of-the-day includes fabulous, bright, zipper, LNA leggings. I hope you like how I wore them because this approach is quite untraditional. Instinctively, and without much consideration, I would wear these leggings with a v-neck boyfriend t-shirt, a man’s watch, an over-sized loose sweater, and maybe a long necklace with a simple pendant. Here I tried to find an alternative. I challenged myself to wear them in a more feminine way. I am not a huge fan of wearing such leggings under a knee-length dress because I think it looks sloppy and a bit too layered for my liking, but a long top or blouse is a different matter. I have these leggings in teal, flamingo pink, and marigold yellow, so stay tuned for my takes on those variations.

P.S. my yogalates instructor wears her blue zipper LNA leggings to class, which is yet another purpose for these fabulous things

Thin leather belt by “B-low the Belt”

Large silver ring
