We celebrated a friend’s birthday last night so, as you can imagine, I’m a little low on energy today. I felt like wearing something light and delicate so I layered my sheer Etro blouse over a sheer polka-dot dress. The belt softens the transition from the one garment to another while visually separating them at the same time. The top part of the dress conveniently assumes the role of a camisole that a sheer blouse often requires and the bottom is turned into a skit. I’ve never layered sheer on sheer before but I think it works.

I went picture crazy when I was in Manhattan. I thought to warn you in advance because I wouldn’t want anyone to have a ‘Lida’s face’ overdose by the end of the post . There might be moments when you think that I repeated the same pics a few times but I assure you that they are all if fact somehow different. You might also notice that the outfit only slightly varies with yesterday’s look-of-the-day. I had to repeat an outfit two days in a row due to a packing miscalculation…what a painful confession. However, my beloved cashmere blanket (my dear aunt Laura knitted) played such a central role in today’s look that I hope it almost makes up for the repetition. New York was a bit chilly so the blanky kept me warm and cozy. No matter how I wrapped or hung it over my body it just seemed to work in the context of Manhattan – that big, scrumptious apple is just magical.

And so my fleeting love afair with Philly continues. The grad school open-house finished by 5 and we were free to explore a different aspect of what the city had to offer. I guess you could call this the “lifestyle portion” of our ‘research.’ After we got back to the hotel, I quickly changed into something a little more…informal. The semi-classic coat was replaced with a dusted suede jacket and the cream fitted dress with a hooded short dress. I was now ready for any combination of site seeing, tasting, and indulging in the ‘yet untried.’ Considering the multitude of activities I planned to jam into the one night, I wore my Uggs for any parts involving prolonged walking. I brought my trusty Guillaume Hinfrays with me for restaurants and lounges. This is where having a large purse definitely comes in handy and the whole switching-footwear-maneuver allows the flexibility to go from comfortable to fabulous in seconds.

Today’s look-of-the-day is of taupe and light grey shades. I had quite an adventure putting it together. It started when I was trying to wrap the Cuban bean necklace around my wrist and it broke. I’m now finding beans in the most unlikely of places in my room. Some of the beans must have flown and rolled pretty far to end up where they did: in one of my boots in the closet, on the TV, and unfortunately for one of them – underneath my foot as I stepped on it (about a minute ago). Well, that’s one of the potential drawbacks of all this fashionista play. There are unavoidable losses to be had. Anyhow, I think it’s a small price to pay for a look (at least in this case). I gathered all the beans that I could find, without waisting too much time, and put together a smaller necklace. It was originally about double the length of what you see here. I guess you could say that my little, one-convertable-peso worth, Cuban-bean-necklace took one for the team .

I also modified the dress a little. I took off the ribbon belt it originally came with and wrapped it around my wrist into a bracelet. I then paired the dress with the Rough Roses belt. I find that the ribbon belt makes the dress look a little too…I don’t know…home-made maybe. My dear mama bought me this dress in Italy and I love it but feel the need to make it my own. LOL, this reminds me of Seinfeld’s stand-up act I saw a while ago where in response to an “I love you” from an audience member he said “I love you too, but I do feel the need to see other people.” Classic .

Today I will be shooting another video-post that will be on beaded-dresses. I think it’s appropriate to cover some more “dressy, party” topics considering the holiday season and all. Hopefully it will present you with some ideas about what to wear to a New Years party or a Christmas dinner. These are pretty major occasions so lets consider all the options.

Today’s look-of-the-day is of what I was wearing yesterday (I promise to catch up soon). Sometimes when I look at the way the outfit turned out on the pictures I get more ideas about what I can do differently with it in the future. After looking at this particular outfit, it occurred to me that maybe I could try wearing this coat with a belt; I have my doubts about the notion because it is so wide at the waist, but I think it’s worth a try (stay tuned for that experiment).

Here is what I was wearing:

Suede coat by “Isaac Sellam”

Necklace by “Ben-Amun”

Bracelet by “Ciro”

Silk top by “Rory Beca”

Pants by “Stella McCartney”

Shoes by “Guillaume Hinfray” (as seen in Nov. 20)

Leather belt by “Forty-Nine Square Miles (SQ MI)” (as seen in Nov. 24)

Bag by “Gen Rigo” (as seen in Nov. 24)

I’m not even sure where to begin. I didn’t have a look-of-the day post yesterday because I was trying to shoot a video-post – and let me tell you – it was a painful experience. Yesterday was just one of those days for me when everything seemed to require more energy and effort for no apparent reason, topped off by the disappointing discovery that the first time we shot the video episode we didn’t transfer it into iMovie properly and it was lost. We did re-shoot it later though. Today I’m going to my Trinity College, of University of Toronto, to finish off some final application stuff. Later I’m meeting up with my old friend to catch up and going to yoga in the evening. The pictures I’ve included in this look-of-the-day are of what I was wearing yesterday.

What I’m wearing:

Skinny jeans by “Joe’s”

Suede sleeveless coat by “Isaac Sellam”

Cashmere cardigan by “Julie & Jack”

Wooden necklace by “Kenneth Jay Lane”

Long leather gloves

Leather boots
