One of my professors had extra tickets to a golf tournament so yesterday my friend and I experienced it for the first time. I wasn’t really sure what to wear but my friend’s “fancy picnic” advice kind of helped. Don’t you love getting fashion advice from straight guys – it’s usually very sophisticated. Anyway, what I decided to do was wear the blouse from the last Thailand post in order to show you what I meant by “out of context.” Wearing it to the beach over a bikini is a more untraditional approach and today’s post exemplifies an “in context” version. Hope you all had an amazing weekend.

These pictures were taken in Toronto on a hot, humid day. But in the last seven days in Tokyo I have become acquainted with humidity on an entirely different level. Natural fabrics that breath are essential in this climate because everything is sticky as it is. I also never leave the hotel without a pair of flats in my bag because no matter how comfortable you might be with walking in heels, exploring a new city is sweeter when the feet are happy. Ps. I handed in my essay to Prof. Taniguchi and heard a cute quote from my friend Jessica that I wanted to share with you – “An essay should be like a woman’s skirt, long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to make it interesting.” Lol, love it!

My Toronto trip is coming to an end so I’m running around all day in preparation for my next destination. For this errand-running-mission, I paired comfortable Lida Baday pants with a loose Brunello Cucinelli top that mom bought me while I was in Cali. The boho-chic fringe bag is so over the top that it takes center stage, as I imagine will often be the case in upcoming looks. That’s a lot of fringe for a little bag, which should look interesting with a maxi.

I picked up this simple little dress at a vintage shop in San Francisco and it has become one of my library favourites. Conveniently enough, its fabric never seems to wrinkle and its loose fit makes it comfortable to sit in for hours. As the deafening silence of the library room and the double vision from excessive reading begin to shut down my senses, I can look down at the pattern of the dress and it completely finishes the job…leads to official loss of sanity .

The day after I got back from Vegas, I had just enough time to repack my suitcases to catch a flight to Toronto. I found Toronto exactly as I had expected – completely covered in snow, in a state of a beautiful, urban, winter wonderland. Actually, pretty much everything else about my trip home was free of surprises. It was just as relaxing and pleasant as I had hoped. It was so nice waking up to the smell of my mom baking and my dad making coffee. There are so many little things I miss being in California without them.

Today’s ensemble was one of my resort day looks in Cuba. I wanted to pair the 40s inspired high-waisted shorts with something equally as reminiscent of that era, so I picked out this bikini top – with full coverage of the bust and wide halter-style straps. In the 40s and 50s, the height of the bottoms customarily ran above the navel, so these shorts seemed like an appropriate march in this regard as well. Paradoxically, my choice of accessories were intended to minimize that retro feel because I’m usually careful not to make the look too dated and, in this case, the accessories seem like a natural way of avoiding this.

Do you remember when I made the post called The Shell Game, and wore that super long shell necklace my mom made out of multiple Cuban necklaces, well I left one in its original state for beachwear and I am wearing it here.

* We are still in Reno but should be arriving in San Francisco today.

 For my Russian Readers:

Сегодняшний образ был одним из моих Кубинских. Моя цель была создать образ вдохновлённый стилем 40-ых -50-ых, сочетатя шорты с высокой талией с довольно закрытым лифом, на широких лямках. Но я, обычно, избегаю ретро стиль в чистом виде и потому аксессуары введены были в комплект из нашего времени для смягчения ощущения стиля ретро.

Remember when I made the peach skirt remix post and said that I was going to the Boldt Castle in the Thousand Islands region, well I made today’s mini-movie from some of the pictures from that visit. While walking around its grounds, I found this interesting little tower that, from the inside, was lit so beautifully that I just had to make something dramatic out of it. Of course the feeling of romance and tragedy that so strongly permeates within the atmosphere of the Boldt Castel (mostly because of its history) also helped the matter a little. The hollowness of this fairy-tail-like tower inspired feeling of estrangement that I think transferred into some of these shots quite nicely.
