I went picture crazy when I was in Manhattan. I thought to warn you in advance because I wouldn’t want anyone to have a ‘Lida’s face’ overdose by the end of the post . There might be moments when you think that I repeated the same pics a few times but I assure you that they are all if fact somehow different. You might also notice that the outfit only slightly varies with yesterday’s look-of-the-day. I had to repeat an outfit two days in a row due to a packing miscalculation…what a painful confession. However, my beloved cashmere blanket (my dear aunt Laura knitted) played such a central role in today’s look that I hope it almost makes up for the repetition. New York was a bit chilly so the blanky kept me warm and cozy. No matter how I wrapped or hung it over my body it just seemed to work in the context of Manhattan – that big, scrumptious apple is just magical.

Admittedly, the colour combination of white, red, and black is one of the safest of them all, but we still love it for its vibrancy and contrast. According to Kate Smith, “a recognized authority on colour,” black is associated with the primordial void and emptiness, red is recognized as a stimulant, while white projects purity, cleanliness, and neutrality. Talk about complicated…

What to some is a lifelong study of psychological interpretation of colour to others is a strictly aesthetic concern. No matter what your level of interest might be, colour is a gift. Depriving yourself of it is wasteful. Play around with colour by defying whatever notions you perviously held about “tasteful” colour combinations. After all, its 2010 – a pretty big number. Enjoy the safe red, white, and black combo or take it to the level of purple, green, and fuchsia. But please, give that exclusively-black-phase a break.

I usually go to the Russian spa with my mom on Thursdays but she couldn’t make it this week so its the same-old application-time for Lida. I am going out for a dinner tonight and decided to do my “look of the day” entry on what I’m planning to wear. I have never worn the skirt or the top before and had never tried this combination. I purchased the skirt first and had a hard time finding something to go with it. After I got the top, it also just hung in my closet; waiting for an appropriate match to complete it. The day has finally come – they found each other. So I call this daily post, (LOL) Soultry Thursday; The Kitchen Edition. Let me know what you think.
