I could hardly breathe in my Cigarette Girl costume because of the crazy corset but I loved playing this character for a night. Twenties were a stylish period.

I went out for dinner last night for my dad’s birthday and felt like being…sparkly. I noticed a sequins layering trend in the runway collections for fall 2011 (see Dolce & Gabbana and Prada) so I decided to do some layering myself. This immoderate trend is finally letting me put my eccentric Marni sequin necklace to use. It’s a win-win.

I bought this Dries Van Noten silk layered skirt the last time I visited my family in Toronto. I love its lace detailing but I had a hard time figuring out something to pair it with. Blouses made it feel overbearing with fabric and simple tanks somehow didn’t do it justice, so I needed to give it time until something worthy came along. And when I was packing for my Asian extravaganza, I started experimenting and tried the skirt on with my light, Ya-Ya Aflalo dress. I loved how its lace detailing complimented that of the skirt but something was still missing. That’s when I layered a silk Winter Kate vest over the dress and voila – the look was complete. The Dries Van Noten skirt was ready for Tokyo.

vintage shopping in Harajuku

I think the weather gods might be reading my blog because it hasn’t rained in Seoul since my last post – solid logic right . This linen look is from a day of shopping in the famous Harajuku area of Tokyo where I discovered some cool vintage shops. Tokyo is definitely an expensive city but vintage pieces tend to cost about the same as they do in the US. That day I ended up leaving Harajuku three vintage dresses richer and about $100 poorer. I loved shopping in the vintage stores because there was hardly a need to even look at the sizes. About 95% of all the pieces ranged from size 0-4. I’ll also never forget my experience of trying the clothes on. Before going into the change-room, you neatly leave your shoes on a little rug outside and put on a special round tissue over your head so as not to get makeup on the dresses. Tokyo is definitely one of the cleanest places in the world with arguably the most well-mannered and friendly inhabitants.

The last two pictures were taken just last night. The dress I’m wearing is one of the three vintage dresses I bought that day in Harajuku.

The first semester of school is almost over and I’m not really sure how I feel about this. It’s funny that once you fall into a routine, no matter how hectic or stressful it may have seemed in the beginning, at a certain point it’s just “what you do.” The novelty is over and it’s hard to imagine doing anything else.

This is what I wore to class today. It got a little chiller the past two days so I had to give silk dresses a rest – albeit a very short one. I have a contracts mid-term coming up in a week so my posts will likely be a little short on words but I’ll do something special on FashionistaTalk after it’s over. Maybe an extra giveaway? falling into fall

Last weekend we drove to Santa Cruz for a little outing. I am slowly coming to terms with the inevitable season change and its implications (not that I ever had a choice in the matter), and this look is sort of a testament to that. The brown tones, the heavier shoes, long…everything. Mind you the fabrics are still super light so it’s more like I’m easing into fall.

Today a girlfriend of mine told me that it has been exactly a month since we started law school and, as crazy as the experience has been so far, I can’t believe a whole month has passed. Time really does fly when you’re having “fun.”

Если нам от Осени не отвертеться, почему бы не войти в новый сезон »налегке»?

I kept hearing over orientation that in the process of studying (which takes up most of day) we will need to take breaks and relax our minds by doing something enjoyable; something to look forward to as a reward for a a completed task. As you could have probably guessed, working on the blog will be my reward. I finished my contracts readings for today and now I can share this next look with you with a clear conscience. I went from the Uniform Commercial Code on to these playful chiffon frills – how is that for a distraction.

This is one of my evening looks from Cuba, which is actually a top layered over a dress.

in transition

I’m not sure if this is just my way of diversifying my wardrobe or if it’s an actual reaction to what is happening in the ever-changing world of fashion, but lately I’ve been gravitating towards colour skinny jeans more then ever (not a difficult claim to make considering that they seemed to have appeared on the radar around this season). There is something so fresh about this fit in vibrant colours that it almost redefines the perception of skinny jeans all together from tired and played out to trend worthy.

I wore my new colour skinnies with a simple silk top when apartment searching on my second day in Santa Clara. It was a little stressful because we were so pressed for time – orientation had already started by the time we were getting around to submitting the application for the apartment. Anyway, I think wearing these bright cuties might have energized me a little. When in transition, sometimes you need little visual reminders of the bright and sunny things to come.

То ли это, способ разнообразить свой гардероб или влияние вечно изменяющейся в мире моды тенденций, но в последнее время, я тяготею к цветным узким джинсам более чем когда-либо. Освежающая красочность уже заезженного стиля , почти реанимирует восприятие джинсов –дудочек и возвращает их в разряд трендов.

Я надела свои новые цветные «дудочки» с простой шелковой маечкой на поиски квартиры, во второй день в Санта-Кларе. Напряжение было велико, т.к. занятия уже начались, а жильё ещё не было найдено. Так или иначе, я думаю, эти яркие штанишки придали мне немного энергии, так необходимой в поворотный для жизни период.
