I had the immense pleasure of cuddling with my friend’s adorable french bulldog, Bruce, before heading out to a birthday dinner on Saturday. I’m crazy about dogs, especially when they’re affectionate and smart. It’s incredible how little it takes before feelings of attachment kick in.

I can’t wait to play around with texture juxtaposition this spring – mixing soft and feminine with tough, waist-attenuating leather. This post is part one of my pre-spring experiment. A sheer chiffon blouse worn over a polka dot pink bra and tucked into a leather pleated mini.

I went out for dinner last night for my dad’s birthday and felt like being…sparkly. I noticed a sequins layering trend in the runway collections for fall 2011 (see Dolce & Gabbana and Prada) so I decided to do some layering myself. As part of the Japanese Business Law class I was taking in Tokyo this summer, we got to visit their patent office and Supreme Court. I welcomed the opportunity to get out of the classroom but the intense heat and humidity of Tokyo summers was making it a little difficult to enjoy wearing business attire. I quickly simplified my looks to a light blouse over a silk camisole and a pencil skirt. A sacrifice of one layer needed to be made in the interest of preserving my sanity

If leisure is a state of mind, I’m as far away from that state as ever. But it doesn’t stop me from reminiscing on my Cuba vacation – those long hours spent on the sunny beach with a light book in my hand. My days are still sunny but the books have gotten a lot heavier and my looks more conservative. Sometimes my mind drifts from actus reus and mens rea to that Cuban state of lightness.
