Today’s ‘wild simplicity’ was less a product of inspiration than it was of circumstance. Our luggage was delayed, so my first day (ever) in California was spent in this oversized cardigan and simple mini. The irony lays in the fact that it is within my general practice to pack all of my most loved and valuable garments (couture or whatnot) into my carryon, but the one time that I deviated from this slightly paranoid practice my luggage actually gets delayed. As a result, my mom and I were “forced” to go shopping in the morning. I picked up a few necessities at Off 5th (Saks) for the day and these two garments were amongst them.

My day so far has largely consisted of getting myself back home to Toronto. I am finally sitting in my condo, with a latte in my hand, writing my daily post. There isn’t much that you can say in relation to travel attire other than the obvious – “comfort comes first.” I used to interpret this comfort-related, three-word-rule as a limiting nuisance. A stifling kill-joy that inhibits our creative instincts and freedoms. But I now realize that it doesn’t have to. On the contrary, I’m beginning to enjoy putting together looks for very specific purposes (such as travel) because its many limitations present something of fun challenge. As long as you keep in mind what the day requires of you (mostly sitting, waiting, and trying to get comfortable with little leg room and so on) then it quickly narrows down your possibilities. Through my previous experiences I’ve learned to layer, wear stretchable, comfy pants, and to bring a big bag for all my travel stuff. Everything else is a matter of the fashionista’s vision.

One of my favourite things about the winter season is being able to feel truly cozy. The extreme discomfort of being outside in the snowstorm or freezing-rain is offset by the satisfying feeling of getting out of this dreadful weather. As I’m enjoying my summer, the thoughts of impermanence creep into my mind with the reminder of the inevitable winter to come. It is precisely this notion of “coziness” that dispels some of the negativity associated with the memory of winter. Sipping hot-chocolate by the fire as the snowflakes dance in the window may be corny in theory but is “delightful” in practice . And certain natural fabrics only intensify the feeling of warmth and comfort. As they envelop our bodies with love and care, fabrics like cashmere and wool remind us of the joys of winter. Appreciate even the itchiest of wools as you layer them into your looks this season. They don’t only keep you warm but possess immense aesthetic potential.

Last night I finally got a chance to see that show, “The Madonna Painter, ” at the Factory Theatre. It’s been hours since I saw it, and am still in a state of astonishment and awe. To put it simply, it was incredible! It’s probably one of the best theatre performances I’ve ever seen and is definitely the best play I’ve ever seen at the Factory Theatre. The cast was strong, the set designers did an amazing job (I didn’t realize that the Factory stage could ever look this good), the play itself – written by Michel Marc Bouchard and translated by Linda Gaboriau – was phenomenal, and it had this musical, “operetta-esque” element to it that was right up my alley. To top it all off, just as I was beginning to catch my breath at the end of the play, we discovered that there was going to be a talk-back with the cast and the lighting director, hosted by Ken Gass. He is the Artistic Director of the Factory Theatre and was my first-year instructor at the theatre program of University of Toronto. He has always been my favorite instructor at the program so seeing him unexpectedly was a real treat.

If you live in the Toronto area, I would strongly recommend seeing this show; and I’m pretty picky when it comes to my theatre.

Today I’ll be doing some more application stuff, going to yogalates, and then my friend and I will be trying out a new fitness class in the evening (kama-aerobics), which supposedly “focuses on the female pleasure center” or something…we’ll see .

This is what I was wearing yesterday.

I’m not even sure where to begin. I didn’t have a look-of-the day post yesterday because I was trying to shoot a video-post – and let me tell you – it was a painful experience. Yesterday was just one of those days for me when everything seemed to require more energy and effort for no apparent reason, topped off by the disappointing discovery that the first time we shot the video episode we didn’t transfer it into iMovie properly and it was lost. We did re-shoot it later though. Today I’m going to my Trinity College, of University of Toronto, to finish off some final application stuff. Later I’m meeting up with my old friend to catch up and going to yoga in the evening. The pictures I’ve included in this look-of-the-day are of what I was wearing yesterday.
