I never thought I would say this, but as much as I loved my Cuba vacation, it’s truly nice to be back. I have tons of looks and stories from my trip to share with you guys and I’ll have to pace myself by spreading them out over multiple posts. In fact, there will be so many vacation outfit ideas that I’ve decided to dedicate a full category on Fahionista Talk to them. The category will be called Resort and it will house all posts related to tropical-vacations.

This little silk jumpsuit is what I wore for the 3.5 hour flight to Cuba. If I was stuck on the plane any longer I might have regretted wearing a one-piece garment; they are not exactly easy to manage in small confinements…(if you know what mean ). I also kept my black asymmetrical cardigan close by at all times, which kept me cozy and warm when needed.

Some more tips for flying smart and in style:

* Pack most essential and precious items into your carry on. I’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember and it has alleviated a lot of the worry around delayed and lost luggage. Don’t forget to include at least one of your favorite bikinis in the mix.

* Bring wetnaps

* Pack at least half as many bikinis as there are days in your vacation. Not only is it simply more fun this way, but the variety in fit and coverage will minimize bikini lines.

To be Continued…

*The winners of the both giveaways will be announced tonight. Good luck dear fashionistas!

The team of We Love Colors sent me this cute summer dress to style for my dear readers. While I kept this look in the navy and white colour scheme, the possibilities for styling such a dress are endless; especially considering that – as the name implies – We Love Colors offers an amazing variety of colour choices for every items they carry. How fun!

I found this zebra dress to be super comfortable and stretchy but also quite see-though actually, so I think it would be most practically worn over a bikini, leggings, or with a long jacket such as mine.

I really patented-it-up for this look-of-the-day. I’ve been waiting to wear this jacket for a while now and today’s decent weather finally permitted the materialization of my modest desire. I generally love large, high collars and I especially appreciate well-constructed ones that stay up as intended. The texture of the patent leather allows the collar on this jacket to stay in place regardless of how high you want it. I paired it with high, patent leather gloves, as I had done in the Gloves video. Once I decided to complete the look with the patent, Pierre Hardy boots, I kept the rest of the garments simple. The shine of patent leather was enough of a statement in itself so I went with a plain sweater and jeans to balance out the glam. That is basically all there’s to my ‘patent’ story .

I wore this outfit for a sushi-lunch (on Queen St.) with a friend that I hadn’t seen in years.

I know…it’s been a while. Did you miss me? The truth is that I’ve been having a pretty tough couple of days – some personal stuff. Fashion and pretty things have been the last thing on my mind. Well, I’m officially getting back to my daily posts. I’ve always been big on consistency so I’ll try to keep up despite the ‘obstacles.’

Today’s look-of-the-day is what I call my “checkered Stella look.” I paired the skirt with a long Angie Gooderham necklace that is of the same white/navy color pallet. This Stella McCartney skirt is one of my favorite travel pieces – the texture of its fabric is intentionally wrinkled, which makes it easy-maintenance and fun to wear. I was able to get it for an amazing price on ebay because the seller sort of confused its potential bidders. She said that the skirt really needs to be ironed and, based on the pictures, it was difficult to predict what effect that would have on the shape of the skirt. From time to time you can come across ebay auctions where the sellers are quite unaware of, or uninterested in, what they are selling, which inadvertently keeps the price low and fashionistas happy. If you love yourself a couture bargain keep an eye out for these.

Today’s look-of-the-day post is rather special. A week before starting this blog I was making my routine walk to the University of Toronto library when a man with a camera approached me. He asked to take my picture for his website that features people with unique, interesting styles. Initially, I was a little taken aback by the request but he seemed pleasant and professional so I agreed. I wanted to start my own fashion blog for a long time and I feel that this experience gave me the extra push – it was encouraging and even empowering. I think that it is amazing when someone’s creativity fuels and inspires others in this way. My encounter with Theo R., the founded and creator of www.styleinvasion.com, indirectly motivated me and I hope that my blog will inspire others. Lets continue this chain of creativity…

Today I will be shooting another video-post that will be on beaded-dresses. I think it’s appropriate to cover some more “dressy, party” topics considering the holiday season and all. Hopefully it will present you with some ideas about what to wear to a New Years party or a Christmas dinner. These are pretty major occasions so lets consider all the options.

Today’s look-of-the-day is of what I was wearing yesterday (I promise to catch up soon). Sometimes when I look at the way the outfit turned out on the pictures I get more ideas about what I can do differently with it in the future. After looking at this particular outfit, it occurred to me that maybe I could try wearing this coat with a belt; I have my doubts about the notion because it is so wide at the waist, but I think it’s worth a try (stay tuned for that experiment).

Here is what I was wearing:

Suede coat by “Isaac Sellam”

Necklace by “Ben-Amun”

Bracelet by “Ciro”

Silk top by “Rory Beca”

It’s Tuesday, November 24. It might seem like I’m only stating the obvious and of course I am, but sometimes I have these minor epiphanies when my mind forces me to acknowledge the exact date as a way of contextualizing my presence in a place in time. Other than these periodic “check-ins” I hardly think about the significance of the passage of a given temporal mark, like a week or a month (as is the case with most people I would assume). This blog is the closest I’ve come to keeping a journal, and what I’ve notices – in the two weeks I’ve been at it – is that it’s forcing me to pay attention to time passing; in effect slowing it down in a way. This has felt like a long 2 weeks and I’m glad. As cliche as it may sound, life really is short (I wrote and erased 2 sentences describing why I believe this to be true but I don’t think any of us are in need of convincing). Anyways this relates to fashion in a sense that being creative and self-expressive everyday by making deliberate aesthetic choices is also a form of enriching whatever time we have.

This look-of-the-day is of what I was wearing yesterday (I’m falling behind one day now with the posts). It was my first time wearing this combination and I think it worked out nicely. When I purchased this top, on a huge sale at Holt Renfrew, I knew that even though it looked strange on the hanger it had potential. Its shaped like a straight, long top, with slits on the sides, and is neither a dress nor a blouse. Its made of the softest silk and is sheer (which complicates the matter even further ).

What I did to make it work was wear:

Silk dark-purple camisole underneath by “Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent”

The silk top itself is by “SPORTMAX”

Leather belt by “Forty-Nine Square Miles (SQ MI)”

Brown tights by “Holt Renfrew”

Leather riding-boots (as seen in Nov. 16)

Gloves by “Alberta Ferretti”

Knitted vest by “Marciano”

Bag by “Gen Rigo”

Long crystal earrings

Its Thursday so its Russian-spa day with my mom. But its not only that. The spa is located outside the city (Richmond Hill) so we run all the errands we need to in that area before going to relax. It’s raining today, so I needed to find something appropriate for the weather and hopefully something comfortable and cozy. Here is what I came up with for today.

What I’m wearing:

Rubber rain-shoes by “Marni” (as seen in Let it Rain)

Soft terry dress by “Young, Fabulous & Broke”

Skin-tone stockings by “Donna Karan”

Long leather necklace by “LM” (still not sure what the initials stand for)

Rain coat by “Coffee Shop” (as seen in Let it Rain)

Bag by “Renato Angi”
