School is back in session and so far I’m enjoying my second year of law school. In Korea, a partner at the law firm where I clerked told me that part of the reason that South Korea has seen such rapid development is due in part to their non-procrastination approach to life. I plan on adopting this “approach”…so I too expect some developments

We’re at that point in our three week program when everyone seems to be needing time to slow down and relax. We’ve been going a little hard on Japan - staying out at every opportunity and indulging in whatever a student’s budget will allow. But thankfully today Tokyo decided to stop raining long enough for us to enjoy a quiet day in the park. I recently discovered that when you walk into subway stations here, soothing sound effects of birds chirping start playing – so as to relax the passengers while they wait for the trains. How sweet is that? Well if that’s what the subway stations have to offer, you can imagine what the parks are like. These pictures were taken at a shopping district on the way to the park.
my soup
I should be working on my take home exam for professor Taniguchi but instead I’m blogging and watching Californication. What is it that they say about procrastination again? Ha, I just realized that I’m sitting in a hotel room in Tokyo while watching a show about California and making one the most Canadian posts ever – kind of ironic. These pictures were taken in Niagara and I’m wearing a dress by a Canadian designer Denis Gagnon. Interestingly enough, the paper that I’m supposed to be writing is premised on the metaphor of the Japanese legal system as a “soup” – with its many influences being ingredients that “create the basic stock underlying a more complex creation to follow” (words of Professor Marc Levin). Anyway, this post is something of a soup…a mixture of ingredients.
couture adventures of 2010
I had some extra time on my hands today so I decided to put together this special “adventures of 2010″ post. Basically, I compiled some of the couture I added to my collection this past year and juxtaposed my looks against the pieces in their element – the runway. As a way of contextualizing some of what you’re seeing, I also included the location of where the item was worn. This whole endeavour was pretty time consuming so I hope you like it.

Today’s ensemble was one of my resort day looks in Cuba. I wanted to pair the 40s inspired high-waisted shorts with something equally as reminiscent of that era, so I picked out this bikini top – with full coverage of the bust and wide halter-style straps. In the 40s and 50s, the height of the bottoms customarily ran above the navel, so these shorts seemed like an appropriate march in this regard as well. Paradoxically, my choice of accessories were intended to minimize that retro feel because I’m usually careful not to make the look too dated and, in this case, the accessories seem like a natural way of avoiding this.
