About four years ago I made up a new tradition for myself. I decided that I would make it a goal to spend every one of my birthdays in a new, preferably exotic place. This is one of my more…”extravagant” traditions – a little ambitious for a student’s budget but somehow I’ve been lucky so far. I figure I’ll just plant the seed and life will figure itself out. Anyway, I spent this year’s b-day on an island in Thailand called Samui and it was incredible. Not only was the island gorgeous, but on the 4th of August I got to ride an elephant, feed a baby tiger, ride on top of a truck (which proved to be more fun than I could have imagined) and eat spicy Top Yum Goong all day. In the spirit of quality tropical vacations, I kept my looks in Thailand casual and light.

I feel a change coming on
Even though I’m not on vacation per se, my days have definitely taken on a vacation feel to them. Ever since I came back from Vegas a few days ago, it’s been all about recovery and rejuvenation. Celebrating the completion of our 1st year with my classmates in Vegas was a blast but it left me in a state of serious post-party laziness. I found myself having to soak in some vitamin D long enough to recharge my batteries.

The weather was so beautiful while we were preparing for exams that I remember picturing myself by the pool as soon as exams were over. I pictured a bright bikini, a large hat, mohitos, and something festive playing in the background. Well I tried that today, with my Michael Kors straw tote in hand and everything else I described. Only as soon as I just about finished with my set up it started raining. Um, so now I’m inside…still hoping that my dream could materialize today.

My “newly acquired independence” (that’s code for becoming single) is giving me more time to reflect and just be on my own than I’ve had in a long time. Naturally, my days have their ups and downs and I find myself doubting and questioning notions that I previously accepted as truths. To dispel some of the vagueness, I’ll just tell you that I’m referring to tedious relationship stuff. Anyway, I’m going to call this part of my life the “Inquisition Period” and never speak of it again. I hope. Today’s post encompasses some of what I refuse to question however. The power of vitamin D and the love of family and friends.
unraveling wherever I’m traveling
I don’t know if it’s just within my circle of friends and acquaintances but a lot of people seem to be island hopping and traveling right now. I didn’t get a chance to get my vacationing on this March break but I wanted to make a few resort posts to keep the theme of tropical festivities going, This look is from my last trip to Cuba. I took a plain straw hat and freshened it up a little with a silk scarf and a yellow flower. Now that I think of it, the gold bathing suit and the silk beach top would be perfect for a pool party. Umm, can’t wait for the summer.
