I’m a strong believer that if a question can be put at all it can also be answered and if your curiosity stretches wide enough the universe will eventually arrange your circumstances in such a fashion so as to make you understand.  But when it comes to some subjects I’m almost afraid to probe for fear of what it might reveal about humanity.  The recent tragedies in Paris, Beirut, and Garissa, Kenya are mind-boggling.  Travesties occurring all over the world and inflicted in the name of political or religious ideologies are simply unfathomable.  I understand that the people behind all this pain have their own worldview, history, and struggle, but I will never understand how there could be so much darkness in human beings.  Anne Carson once said, “Why does tragedy exist? Because you are full of rage. Why are you full of rage? Because you are full of grief”.  So maybe grief is causing the rage, which in turn is causing the tragedies.  And those tragedies are further perpetuating the cycle by having more grief manifest into rage and so on.  Of course it would be possible to come up with thousands of alternative and probably more pessimistic theories but I’ll stop here.  At the end of the day they are nothing but theories.  Lives are still being lost.  #prayforhumanity
