I’ve noticed that there seems to be a general consensus amongst many fashion bloggers on the topic of the importance of “balance” in the construction of outfits. I agree that finding some equilibrium within a given combination often lends itself to more harmonious looks, but I’m afraid that the vagueness of the idea of “balance” distorts the original message and creates unnecessary limits once again. Balance is a relative, subjective notion that is just another word for “don’t over do it.” For example, when I was deciding this morning how many of the bangles to wear with this ensemble I remembered a cute moment from Shrek. As I put the first two bangles on I thought…”don’t over do it,” with the third bangle…”don’t over do it,” and as I slid my hand through the fourth…”you just over did it.” Yes, I over did it and stepped out the door!
It’s all a lot simpler than the “experts” make it sound. There is no real mystery or secret to it. If you like wearing something and it makes you and those around you happy, it’s right. Balance or no balance – wear it! There’s no growth in conforming and what is fashion if not one element of growth layered on another.
“Too much of a good thing can be wonderful,” a quote by a legendary American actress and sex symbol, Mae West.
What I’m wearing:
- Cotton jacket by “Sanctuary” (last seen in Apr. 6’10)
- Barry gingham button down shirt by “Frank & Eileen”
- Tanya denim short shorts by “People’s Liberation”
- 4 large zip bangle by “Luc Kieffer”
- Chunky chain ring by “Luc Kieffer”
- Pumps by “MARNI” (last seen in May 6’10)
- Grosi gathered sac by “Malababa” (last seen in May 21’10)

I love this look! The simple gingham shirt with the 3/4 sleeve cropped jacket is adorable, and they class up cut offs, making them look very chic, and the plum bucket bag is very cute. The whole look is very indie fashionista.
Oh thanks Michaela. I felt like being a little cash for a change
Love the gingham button down and the plum bucket bag! They make the cut offs very indie fashionista

Thank you. Lol, I am too! Just bought a few more today in a different colour. I'm really going bangle crazy this spring
I think it's hard to “over do it” with great bangles. Maybe that phrase is reserved for lime green spandex and frosted pink lipstick. Balance is great, but sometimes its fun to be a little fashion rebel.
lol, that's so true. In most cases simply wearing lime green spandex is already overdoing lime green spandex.
I love this look on you… very well put together.
This look is super cute! The gingham button down shirt is adorable, and I absolutely love the bangles!!
Thank you Heather
