I’m going to an opera tonight to see “The Flying Dutchman,” which I’m pretty excited about. I’m not wearing this to the opera however. I like to take full advantage of any opportunity to ‘really’ dress-up because unfortunately they don’t come around that often; there are only ‘so many’ weddings and galas a girl gets invited to in a year, right? So no, I have something quite different planned for tonight, the pictures of which I will post tomorrow.
I called today’s look “my take on cubism” because every time I look at the print of this dress, images of abstract, cubist art pops into my head. Once I identified the source of these mental associations, the ‘idea’ of cubism inspired the choice in accessories as well.
For the sake of variety and increased intensity, I tried the smoky-eye-look. However, when applying the eye-shadow, I have to be careful not to over-indulge because it often makes me look like someone malnourished and sleep deprived. Not exactly a desirable effect
.
What I’m wearing:
- Maxi silk dress by “Marciano”
- Embellished leather platforms by “Marciano” (last seen in Apr. 13’10)
- Wooden necklace by “Kenneth Jay Lane” (last seen in Dec. 28’09)

Just found your site through Weardrobe. Seriously loving it.
You’re gorgeous! Love your style!
I think I need to start shopping at Marciano! Every time I love one of your dresses, that is where it came from! I love how the shoes look with the dress as well. Have a great time at the opera tonight!
You know, it may not seem like it from my pictures, but I’m not a big fan of Marciano anymore. When i did my undergrad at U of T on Sr. George, I would sometimes swing my the Marciano/Guess store (now it’s just guess) on Dundas because upstairs they had the most incredible sales on Marciano stuff. I ended up buying all this clothes for A LOT cheaper but I had to dig through a lot of so-so stuff to get anything cute. And in my opinion, their collections are getting progressively worse. A lot of their clothes now look like cheap club-wear. I’m sure that if you were to walk into any Marciano store right now you could probably find a few interesting pieces, but the proportion of cute to tacky is getting smaller. To be frank, I can’t imagine myself paying regular price for Marciano when we have so many options in Toronto.
Lol, this ended up turning into a longer reply then I expected.
Thanks Robin, the opera was good
Awww well that explains a lot! Since I started reading your blog I started popping into Marciano at Yorkdale etc and I am never able to find anything as beautiful or classy as the pieces I see you wear on your blog. I guess what you wrote above makes sense! So tell me, what are your favourite shops/boutiques to buy clothing from in Toronto. I recently started buying things from Mendocino but it is likely because I was in BC for the last 2 years and they don’t have that store there so I just want to be different…
Yeah Robin, like Clamato, I would strongly recommend Last Call. It’s especially amazing during their end of season sales. I found some of my best stuff there. Also, if you happen to be in New York, Century 21 is pretty awesome too. When I was in Cali last week, I really liked their off 5th (Saks).
In terms of Toronto, Last Call is my favourite but it is a long drive away from the city. And I’m sure you know of the runway section at Winners. There isn’t as much selection of high-end designers though and (if you find something cute) the price is often not that great.
I’ve also recently discovered that Club Monaco on Queen St. has a lot of jewellery sales. I’ve been periodically popping in there when i’m in the area because sometimes you can end up betting a $200 necklace for like $9 bucks + if you are a student you get additional 20% off everything, including sales items. So that necklace would end up costing $7. Not too bad right?
That’s all I can think of right now but i’ll let you know if i remember or hear of anything else.
Love Lida
Try Holt renfrew last call at Vaughn mills they have most amazing clothes
The make-up looks great. Very attractive dress and great shoes.
You think so, about the make up? Thats nice to hear, thank you.
Beautiful! You certainly know how to rock a maxi dress, whether solid-colored or patterned!

Lol, it’s funny you should say that because I’m about to make another post where I’m in a maxi-dress. Coincidink.
Thank you Neekoh

This is my favorite look (For the Purse Giveaway…I hope I'm doing this right). I chose this look because I have a “thing” for abstract prints. In fact this dress is now in my inspiration file, and I'm hoping to make something similar because I love it so much!!
Sounds great Natasha and you did do it right
. I'm glad you find it inspirational. Thank you for entering the draw and good luck!
