Today’s look-of-the-day is of the outfit I wore on the way back to Toronto. As fun as our trip had been I was ready to come home because, quite honestly, it was also pretty tiring. It was my first time wearing the LnA zipper leggings when traveling and they were unsurprisingly perfect for the occasion. I felt very comfortable lounging in them in the back seat, even more so then in the Lida Baday pants I wore on the way to Cleveland. I paired the leggings with a hoodie and simple ballet flats. The whole combo inspired in me a feeling of lightness and even a bit of an inclination towards movement and dance. It’s amazing how much wearing certain garments can affect your mood and in this case it had an almost energizing effect.

Happy Valley
As part of this road-trip, the second school to visit on our agenda was located in State College, Pennsylvania. The town is economically and demographically dominated by the presence of the main campus of the Penn State University. The disproportionate presence of young people manifestly dictates its general atmosphere in every regard. As I was looking out the window on our drive through the town it felt almost surreal. It’s like I was in some twilight zone run by jocks and girls in booty shorts (the weather was beautiful). While I’m sure the experience of living there is enjoyable in its own way, I personally couldn’t imagine it for myself. The more exposed I am to the lifestyles of different people the more convinced I become of my inherently metropolitan nature…at least for now.
The City of Smiles
What I found to be most impressionable about Cleveland had less to do with the city itself or even the school I visited than with its people. I was in complete awe of how genuinely friendly and pleasant everyone was. It’s probably the most welcoming city I’ve ever been to and the best part is that this warm disposition of its residents is contagious. Needless to say, the visit was thoroughly enjoyable.
On the Way to Cleveland
My parents and I are driving out to Cleveland today for my first grad school open house. So far it has been a fun little road-trip, with periodic stops for tea refills and a few pictures for today’s post. My mom bought these handy porcelain travel cups (I’m holding it in one of the pictures) that we were eager to put to use, so now each service area stop perpetuates the next
. In order to make it in time for the first scheduled event at the school we had to leave at 5 a.m. so, as you can imagine, I’m a little drowsy in these pics. Being comfortable is obviously the priority for a day on the road so I paired my new Lida Baday pants with a simple tank and a cashmere cardigan. The bright silk scarf was a substitute for a long necklace I would have normally worn with this combo. I wanted to add more colour and brightness to the look without having to chill in the back seat with a chain and pendant on my neck. The silk scarf was a comfortable, soft alternative that I’m now glad I chose.
Leather Pants
I had been looking for a well-fitting pair of skinny leather pants and yesterday I finally found them at Club Monaco. I knew the moment had finally come as soon as I finished squeezing into them in the change room and looked in the mirror
. The sales girl assured me that they would stretch to fit my body and considering that I have zero experience with faux leather I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. As you may have noticed, I’m a strong supporter of natural fabrics but I am willing to make a compromise for these babies. So far I’m satisfied (but them again, I’ve only worn them for a total of an hour).
