Admittedly, the colour combination of white, red, and black is one of the safest of them all, but we still love it for its vibrancy and contrast. According to Kate Smith, “a recognized authority on colour,” black is associated with the primordial void and emptiness, red is recognized as a stimulant, while white projects purity, cleanliness, and neutrality. Talk about complicated…
What to some is a lifelong study of psychological interpretation of colour to others is a strictly aesthetic concern. No matter what your level of interest might be, colour is a gift. Depriving yourself of it is wasteful. Play around with colour by defying whatever notions you perviously held about “tasteful” colour combinations. After all, its 2010 – a pretty big number. Enjoy the safe red, white, and black combo or take it to the level of purple, green, and fuchsia. But please, give that exclusively-black-phase a break.
