Today’s look-of-the-day is once again predominantly silk and satin but it also brings us to a new topic. Today is my first time wearing this coat-dress by Noir primarily because of its length. Just out of curiosity I tried it on a few days ago with my Miu Miu skirt but after a quick glance in the mirror the “length theory” was confirmed. Length does matter when it comes to creating harmonious combination. If the skirt is substantially longer or shorter than the coat the effect is sloppy and unbalanced. The only exception is when it comes to mini skirts because they are in a category of their own. You can wear a tiny mini with a long trench and look seductive and playful. However, if the length of the skirt is neither here nor there and it looks as though it would line up with the coat if not for those “extra few inches” then I would wait until I had a match or alter one of the garments. This morning I was pleasantly surprised to discover that no only did the texture of the Religion dress compliment that of the dress-coat but their lengths were also a fit. The visual lines crated by the length of a garment greatly contribute to its silhouette and should not be regarded lightly.

Pockets & Dresses
Considering how late I’m posting this look-of-the-day that it’s more of a “look-of-the-night” than anything, but who is paying attention anyways… Better late than never right? I am kind of going through some shaky personal stuff at the moment so I was “preoccupied” during the day; my mind wasn’t on fashion or dress-up. But I still love both of those things and didn’t want to stray from our daily tradition. So here it is…
Inspired Sunday
I’m having a regular chill Sunday but this morning I felt something unusual in the air. I’m not sure what brought it on, probably just the good sleep, but I wanted to do something special with my look today. I bought this Miu Miu skirt on ebay about a year ago and never got a chance to wear it because I had a hard time finding something worthy to pair it with. When thinking about potential candidates I always imagined something simple like a black tank or tube top. A blouse had never occurred to me because I unconsciously wrote this option off as destined for a clash. This morning I put these notions aside and experimented and now I’m wiser for it. Clashing…hum…what a silly idea.
Pearl + Dot
Today’s look-of-the-day is from my first trip to St. Petersburg, Russia. No, it was actually more than just that – it was my very first trip to Russia ever. After the first day of site-seeing I was in complete awe of its beauty and splendour. The architecture and the the scenery is so impressive that you quickly become overwhelmed and immersed in it all. I even found that the city inspired me to make certain fashion choices when dressing for a day of exploration. I tended to reach for the most romanic and feminine of the dresses in my suitcase. This silk polka-dot dress seemed most appropriate for my mood of that day. I like to bring a lot of choices with me when I travel and then let the vibe of the city act as a guide. I find that it makes the whole experience more enjoyable and fulfilling for me by adding another dimension to it. This flexible approach is like a fashionista’s take on the idea of “when in Rome.”
Fur or Faux
I was hesitant in making a look-of-the-day post on the subject of fur because of all the ethical concerns surrounding it. As a person who obviously owns a fur coat I am not going to make any grand statements about where you should stand on the issue; all I can do is speak from experience. Personally I now feel that the perks of a fur coat (its softness, warmth, comfort, and look) hardly make up for the guilt of knowing their cost – and I’m obviously not speaking in monetary terms. When wearing my coat, after a while it was even strange and unnerving to receive complements about it. I’m pretty sure that this fur coat is going to be my last. Will I go faux with the next coat? Probably not. I’m now thinking more along the lines of something simple, elegant, and non-furry
.
