Today’s look-of-the-day is of a dress I wore to a loft party a few years ago. I remember stumbling upon it at a store in downtown Toronto with one of my girlfriends from University, Chandra. She brought it to my attention and suggested that I try it on because it seemed to have potential, despite the fact that from the front it didn’t look like much on the hanger. But as soon as I saw the back I remember getting exited. I love the originality of its cut – an open-v-back with a strip in the middle…Swanky!!! In the future I plan to make minor alterations to the dress in order to adjust its fit and I think I will go bolder with accessories, maybe even introducing an accent color to the look.
Generally speaking I feel that my philosophy and approach to designer pieces is more liberal then it used to be. I now feel less inclined to preserve the design of the garment so as not to disturb its creator’s “vision” or intent. I feel that if making alterations (like removing a bow or shortening a dress) is going to make it more enjoyable to wear, than indulge. Cut and sew away to make it truly yours!
