As you might have guessed, I watched the movie “Coco Before Chanel” (2009) last night. It is so relevant to the subject of this blog and I found it to be so inspirational that I decided to dedicate this look-of-the-day entry to “Coco” Chanel. I don’t want to ruin the film for those who haven’t seen it yet, but this woman’s life story and achievements are extraordinary. She was a true fashion revolutionary – “ahead of her time” and fearless in displaying the fact. In the age of excessive extravagance, she argued that ‘simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.’ In our years of postmodernism, we have the multitude of choices when it comes to fashion and style partially because of people like her. I wouldn’t want to take this “freedom” for granted.
P.S. After doing a bit of research about her life (in trying to figure out how much of the movie is factual) I discovered that Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel was born August 19, 1883. I found this to be interesting because this means that she was born exactly 100 years before me and we are both Leo’s (trippy but nice
).
